Power of taxman’s new computer system has tracked down £26m in unpaid debts

ByTyndallwoods September 28, 2012

The Times article on 14 September reported that HM Revenue and Custom’s new Connect computer system responds to individuals who try to avoid or evade tax inheritance tax by automatically drawing on comprehensive data from across the department, wider government and third parties.  The computer software can cross reference bank accounts, employment history, company ownership and property transactions to filter key details and challenge tax claims.

With tough penalties if you get it wrong – either deliberately or negligently, it is important to complete a tax return with complete honesty and transparency.
