Zoom or face to face?

ByKate Slater September 1, 2021

With the recent surge in Zoom meetings you’d be forgiven for thinking that everything can be done remotely now.  But some things work best face to face and signing a Will is way up there at the top of the list.

Much of the preparation and background work can be done remotely, but it is important to offer clients the ability to sign their Will in front of two members of staff as witnesses who can make a capacity assessment and complete a check list, making the will more robust against challenge.

We are seeing a huge increase in demand for this service, which is understandable at this uncertain time, and we’re fortunate to have the space to offer a safe environment for all of our clients and the most vulnerable in particular.

To meet the safety needs of our staff and clients we’ve been using the Coach House, within the grounds of the main building, to hold client meetings in a carefully controlled safe space.

During the summer we also set up two marquees to act as “Garden Offices” that enabled social-distancing and benefited from being out in the fresh air.

We have developed and continually monitor and progress our response to COVID.  We had to close the offices for a while, but we’re learning how to operate in a new world and are pleased to be fully back and able to meet the needs of our clients.

Our ability to offer a face to face service is particularly helpful for our matrimonial clients who benefit from our one-stop-shop offering which includes divorce, mediation, residential property conveyancing and Wills. We aim to make what is often a painful and difficult process run as smoothly as possible.

I would like clients to know that we have worked tirelessly to ensure we can offer them a good experience. They will still see their designated solicitor where possible and as appropriate in the transaction. We are seeing people face to face and have suitable accommodation for this.
